KeyPilot Settings

Overview

Pick a category to change how KeyPilot looks and behaves. Use the list on the left anytime.

Theme

Built-in packs restyle chrome, type, and icons. Edits live on the Appearance tab. Choosing a theme also applies that theme’s Click Mode and cursor defaults.

Reset

Restore all KeyPilot settings to product defaults (appearance, Click Mode, keyboard, scrolling, stored panel positions, and the rest).

Appearance

Customize the selected built-in theme. Changes apply immediately and stay with that pack until you reset or switch themes.

Theme

Switching packs starts from that theme’s defaults (custom edits are cleared). Click Mode defaults follow the pack.

Reset appearance

Clear token edits and restore the selected built-in theme. Click Mode is left as-is.

Search engine

Used by the New Tab search box and KeyPilot’s omnibox (Alt+L).

Layout and floating keyboard reference panel behavior.

Keyboard Reference K

Keyboard layout family

Controls which built-in layout family is active. Handedness is set separately so cycling families never flips left/right.

Left-handed

Use the left-handed variant of the selected layout family (shortcuts primarily on the right side).

Show number row

Include the 1–0 row in the floating keyboard reference panel and layout editor.

Show pressed-key feedback

Highlights keys in the floating keyboard reference panel on keydown/keyup.

Cursor

Whether KeyPilot overrides the page cursor, plus Click Mode cursor style and geometry.

No Custom Cursors KeyPilot Cursors

When “No Custom Cursors” is selected, KeyPilot won’t override the page cursor and the Click Mode cursor controls below are hidden. “KeyPilot Cursors” shows KeyPilot’s crosshair (and related) cursors instead.

Line width

Thickness of the crosshair lines (1–12).

Size

Size of the cursor in pixels (5–60px).

Gap

Gap between center and crosshair bars in pixels. 0 = intersecting lines, >0 = separate bars (0–20px).

Scrolling

Keyboard page scrolling for C / V (smaller step). Z / X jump to the edge. Scroll Line targeting and optional middle-click.

C / V distance

Pixels scrolled by C (up) and V (down). Default 500.

Scroll speed

Animation for keyboard scrolling (C/V, Z/X, B/N).

Scroll Line skips wide in-page scrollers

Prefer square or taller overflow boxes (1:1 or vertical). Wide strips such as carousels are skipped so Scroll Line locks the page or a portrait pane instead.

Middle click starts Scroll Line

On empty page area, the middle mouse button runs the Scroll Line action (same as the bound key). Links, clickables, and text fields keep native middle-click. On by default on Mac.

Click Mode

Hover focus rectangle, keyboard hints, and click activation effects.

Focus rectangle

Live hover outline on clickable targets. Changes apply immediately (including in this Settings window).

Color

Outline color for the focus rectangle.

Show transparent overlay

Adds a translucent fill inside the focus rectangle.

Show shadow / glow

Soft outer glow around the focus rectangle.

Rectangle thickness

Border thickness for the focus rectangle (1–16px).

Keyboard Reference

Glow keys when hovering a link

While the Keyboard Reference is open, matching green action keys get an outline and glow when you hover a clickable link on the page. Off by default.

Click effect

Visual feedback when you press F to activate a link-style target.

Advanced Paint backend and focus-ring padding

Paint mode

How the hover focus rectangle is drawn. Auto B→C skips DOM outline (A) and uses an in-target ring, then a fixed overlay. Matches Shadow Root Debug (Alt+D).

Padding

Outward gap around the focus rectangle (0–16px). Default 2px matches the old outline offset; B→C rings previously used 0.

Cursor + focus style + labels for text fields.

Focused text field style

How the active text field looks while typing (text mode). Hover still shows an orange outline and “F to select” to the left of the field.

Left edge pulse Orange bar on the left edge, pulsing (default). “Esc to exit” sits to the left of the bar. Background tint Full orange wash over the field (previous style), plus the Esc hint.

Left edge bar width

Width of the pulsating left-edge bar (1–24px). Default 5px.

Labels & outlines

Show labels above and below focused text field

Shows “Active text field” and “Press ESC to close”. Turn off for outline-only.

Stroke thickness

Thickness of the orange text-mode outlines (1–16px).

Control Strip

Compact status strip in the upper-left of every page (macOS Control Strip style). Press Alt+J to show it again after closing.

Show control strip

When off, the strip is hidden until you enable this or press Alt+J to toggle it back on.

Collapsed by default

Shows only the On/Off status segment until you expand the strip.
